RSN Rayer of the Democratic Action Party said that the political alliance between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional should serve as an example of how differences can be set aside for the nation's development.
He mentioned that the cooperation between these former political foes stands in stark contrast to the attitude of the opposition coalition "Perikatan Nasional" (PN).
"Both Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have adhered to the laws of the country, setting aside our differences to work together for the nation," he said.
"The People's Party refuses to unite with the government, showing their lack of concern for the welfare of the people and the country," Rayer said while walking in Taman Pelangi with PH's Prai parliamentary candidate Suhizan Kayat.
Liew Chin Tong, the Democratic Action Party's Johor state chairman, and other party leaders were also present at the meeting.
Rayer, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jelutong, added that the People's Party envied the political cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, with many critics initially deeming it impossible.
He pointed out that PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his deputy Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang displayed arrogance when the coalition government was formed.
"They failed to see the benefits of the alliance between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional for us. This led to Muhyiddin rejecting the coalition government, while Hadi wanted to overthrow it," Rayer said.
Rayer added that he had no issues with the cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.
He stated that he accepted this relationship based on his spirit and identity as a Malaysian, supporting the laws of the country.
Regarding Datuk Nur Jazlan's call for the Democratic Action Party to remove secular state and Malaysian agenda from its constitution, Rayer said he believed that the UMNO leader might have misunderstood certain facts.
However, he added that he intended to have the Democratic Action Party leadership respond to Nur Jazlan's statement.
"I believe the Democratic Action Party leadership will soon provide an explanation on this matter," he said, adding that he would refrain from further comments on the issue.
Earlier, Nur Jazlan in a statement urged the Democratic Action Party to amend its constitution to unite the alliance and gain support from Malay voters.
The UMNO Supreme Council member stated that the Malay nationalist party expected to convince grassroots to join the alliance, but it was challenging due to the perception of the Democratic Action Party's "extreme" views on secular state and Malaysians.
"If the Democratic Action Party truly wishes to gain Malay support through this cooperation with UMNO, then it should also be brave to make significant changes to succeed in the 16th general election," said Nur Jazlan, UMNO's Prai division chief.
